As part of a collaboration between Institut Curie and Ibex Medical Analyltics, the AI ’Galen Breast’ helped with the diagnosis.
Improve the quality of breast cancer diagnosis and reduce errors is what artificial intelligence (AI) ‘Galen Breast’ is capable of. This artificial intelligence algorithm has been successfully tested as part of a scientific study conducted by the Institut Curie; it made it possible to detect several categories of cancers be you and even to determine the degree of severity of the tumors present.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has detected several categories of breast cancer
Thanks to the ‘Galen Breast’ AI, pathologists will be able to be even more precise in their analyses. Pr Anne Vincent-Salomon of the Institut Curie gives more details on franceinfo: “The slides of the samples are scanned overnight. When the pathologist arrives in the morning, the slides have been pre-analyzed by the algorithm with a small label ‘invasive carcinoma’ marked with a small flag and ‘more urgent case’ because there are more examinations to request, and that it must therefore be taken as a priority. We can even imagine that the algorithm makes the link with the prescription of additional examinations that are necessary and this saves time“.
Support for pathologists
For her part, the oncologist, Suzette Delaloge, adds, while going in the direction of her colleague: “This system is especially developed to be a support to the pathologists, to check that they did not miss something during the diagnosis“.
Save time and prioritize better
This analysis therefore saves time and better prioritizes the steps, specifies Anne Vincent-Salomon. Better still, the algorithm will also be able to detect prostate and stomach cancers.
