Annual interface changes are currents on instagram. 2023 is no exception to this rule and users will have to change their habits once more. In a communiquéat branches of Meta declares, on January 9, that the shop tab of the main menu of the application will disappear next month.
E-commerce will continue in other formats on Instagram
Since September, Mark Zuckerberg’s company has been testing a home page without the shop tab. From February, the main menu located at the bottom of the application will bring together from left to right the tabs: home, search, creation of publication, Viewing Reels (it takes the place of the store) and access to the user’s profile.
These changes are a way of simplify the Instagram experience for users according to the company. Broadly speaking, they are part of a new strategy to reduce e-commerce functionality on the app, according to The Information. However, the company assures that the commerce part will always be part of the social network even without shortcuts, “ You’ll still be able to set up your store on Instagram, as we’ll continue to invest in shopping experiences across feed, stories, Reels, ads and more. The statement does not specify what will be the future of the personalized shopping page and associated data following the redesign.
Like other social networks, Instagram invested in tools to try to get users to become consumers within the app. The shop tab does not seem to have convinced. Yet the e-commerce bet works in some Meta rivals. TikTok seems to be succeeding where Instagram failed. According to the analysis firm Data Ai, 6 billion dollars were spent on the platform in 2022, the figure should reach the 10 billion dollars in 2023.
Meta will not remain on this failure to believe its declarations. Mark Zuckerberg’s social networks need to find other sources of income in the face of the drop in online . E-commerce is one of the most promising solutions: by 2025, purchases within social networks might generate more than 1.2 trillion dollars worldwide.
