A study says that video games may threaten children’s heart health

Researchers from the Children’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia revealed, in a recent medical study, that they monitored heart disorders in children who play video games and who already suffer from heart problems.

The researchers studied reports of twenty-two children and adolescents who suffered from heart rhythm disturbances while playing video games. In many cases, children suddenly fainted, and some had cardiac arrest, which led to the death of 4 children from the group they studied.

They emphasized that it is not clear how common such incidents are, stressing the need to monitor children while playing video games, and to obtain medical advice in the event of fainting or fatigue among their children.

According to lead researcher Claire Lawley, a pediatric cardiologist, monitoring any symptoms indicating a heart disorder requires immediate intervention from parents, according to the UPI news agency.

The researchers pointed out that video games contribute to the rise in “adrenaline”, which affects the cardiovascular system in a manner similar to physical exertion, including raising blood pressure and heart rate, and called for further research to know the effect of video games on the healthy hearts of its practitioners. And also expanding the study of its consequences for those who already suffer from diseases or heart disorders.
