Through a statement, parliamentary members of the Puno region spoke out regarding the events that occurred last Saturday during the violent demonstrations in southern Peru. The congressmen demanded the resignation of Dina Boluarte.
“The latest events in the Puno region have confirmed the repressive, dictatorial, military, and abusive character (…) to the extreme of not having distinguished who participates in a protest, since they have shot, beaten, and repressed in any way women, youth, adolescents, neighbors, and the regional and international press,” they reported.
They also added: “The request for his resignation, advancement of elections, closure of Congress and Constituent Assembly, has as a background the voice of a people that reacts to so much neglect and abandonment…”.
