‘The Exorcist’ cinematographer Owen Roizman has died

Roizman was 86 years old

The American cameraman Owen Roizman, who stood behind the camera in Hollywood films such as “The Exorcist” or “Tootsie”, is dead. He died on Friday night (local time) in his home in Encino, California, the film newspaper “Hollywood Reporter” reported “, citing Roizman’s wife Mona.

The US Association of Cinematographers (American Society of Cinematographers) mourns the death of the cameraman following a “long illness”, the organization said on social media. Roizman was 86 years old.

Roizman was nominated for five Oscars for his cinematography on The French Connection, The Exorcist, The Network, Tootsie and Wyatt Earp. He always went away empty-handed at the award ceremonies, but the Oscar Academy recognized his services in 2017 with an honorary Oscar. The cameraman has a very special eye, not just for individual images, but for the entire story, explained “Tootsie” star Dustin Hoffman in his eulogy to Roizman at the time.

Roizman also stood behind the camera in films such as “The Three Days of the Condor”, “The Stepford Wives”, “Addams Family”, “Grand Canyon – In the Heart of the City” or “French Kiss”.
