Bernese Jura: An alarm at 4:45 a.m. wakes up the firefighters!
Rescuers got up early on Saturday to put out a fire in a farm garage and relocate the victims to Villeret.
The announcement of a fire in the garage of a dwelling house in Villeret was given to the Bernese cantonal police on Saturday morning shortly following 4:45 a.m. At rue de la Gare, the fire had already reached the roof of the building when the intervention forces arrived.
Coming from the valley of St-Imier, around forty firefighters from Erguël, La Suze and Centre-Vallon were able to control the fire. Extinguishing work continued throughout the day.
Five persons
“The five people who were at her home when the fire broke out were able to leave the building on their own,” Bern police said. A young girl was treated by the ambulance team on suspicion of smoke poisoning, but did not have to be taken to hospital.
The four apartments of the house are uninhabitable. “Another accommodation solution might be found for the residents with the municipality”, indicate the rescuers. Investigations by the cantonal police are underway to clarify the cause of the fire and the amount of damage.
