Streamer Neuro-sama plays games such as Minecraft and Osu! on Twitch, but unlike other anime avatars, she is not controlled by a human, but by an artificial intelligence program. It was created by a programmer named Vedal, who just wanted to do a fun experiment. In addition to playing games, Neuro-sama can also chat, and this is where problems arose that have already caused outrage among female gamers.
Since Neuro-sama is not a human, many tried to ask her tricky questions, which she answered in the style of artificial intelligence. For example, when asked what she thinks regarding women’s rights, Neuro-sama stated that they do not exist. And in response to the well-known riddle “The problem of the trolley”, she said that you need to throw the fat man on the rails.
Portal Kotaku turned to the creator of Neuro-sama for comments, to which he tried to justify himself:
The controversial things she says are due to the fact that she tries to make witty and funny remarks regarding everything that is written in the chat. Aligning AI with human values is an ongoing area of research. I’m working hard to improve the filters used for it. The data she learns from is also manually processed to moderate negative biases. In addition, we have a team of Twitch chat moderators who check everything she says.
