Rice stock is “sufficient”, but the price is rising

The stock of rice is sufficient, revealed yesterday the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Consumption which, through its general managers and directors, carried out control operations on the capital’s wholesale markets. The problem in terms of consumption, however, lies in the prices which are constantly rising and to which consumers are beginning to raise their voices, without making any noise.

The ministry also confirms that there is a gap between the prices of imported rice and those produced locally. The kilo of imported rice varies between 2,180 ariary and 2,400 ariary, at wholesaler level, while the kilo of local rice amounts to 3,000 ariary. At retail level, it is increased by approximately 200 ariary per kilo at the minimum. Thus, the ministry plans to intensify the efforts deployed within the framework of the distribution of the imported rice, and of course, to bet on the importation.

The ministry believes that there is speculation in the marketing of rice in the country. This must be the reason why the Director General of Commerce and Consumption, Isidore Razanakoto, recalled that ” Transgression of the law or speculation are punishable by law. But there are also sanctions that will be imposed on the authors as a trader.you”. Thus, the ministerial department intends to increase the pressure to solve the problem.
