Men’s and women’s national team players selection criteria:
(1) Men’s and women’s singles representative selection method (maximum quota of 5 each) (Note 1)
Athletes who have qualified for the Durban Games in the Asian Continental Preliminary Round will be the representatives of the Durban Games.

(2) Selection method for representative pairs for men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles (Note 1)
Pairs that have qualified for the Durban Games in the Asian Continental Preliminary Round will be the representatives of the Durban Games.
(Note 1) ・The number of quotas for each continent will be determined following the 2023 World Rankings are announced in the third week.

(3) Selection by world ranking recommendation quota (Note 2) (Note 3)
Send the maximum number of athletes and pairs who participated in the Asian Continental Qualifying Round to the World Championships using the Asian Continental Quota and the World Ranking Recommendation Quota.

If the representative players and representative pairs do not win the maximum quota in the Asian Continental Qualifiers, the players and pairs that are clearly recommended in the world ranking (announced 12th week of 2023 (hereinfollowing referred to as WR12)) will be ranked in the world ranking announced by WR12. Secure the maximum participation quota for the Japanese team using the recommendation quota.

2021 ITTF Board Approval: Athletes/pairs competing in the World Championships will qualify as their associations rather than as individuals. The Association shall have the right to nominate according to the number of qualifications for the World Championships. (above, summary excerpt)

・Even if the World Ranking Recommendation quota is obtained for the players/pairs who did not participate in the Asian Continental Qualifiers, those players/pairs who did not participate in the Asian Continental Qualifiers cannot participate in the Durban Games.

(Note 3)
・If the maximum quota is not obtained even following using the Asian continental quota and the world ranking quota, the following will apply.

1) Athletes who have won the Asian Continental Quota and are not certain of obtaining the World Ranking Recommendation Quota in WR12 will use the Asian Continental Quota.

2) Athletes who have won the Asian Continental quota and who are certain to acquire the World Ranking Recommendation quota in WR12 will use the World Ranking Recommendation quota.

3) If there are players who did not win the Asian continental quota and there is a vacant Asian continental quota, they will be selected in order of selection points.

4) If there is a player who has not obtained a frame in 1) to 3) above and there is a vacancy in the WR12 world ranking recommendation frame, they will be selected in order of selection points.

5) If two doubles pairs do not win the Asian Continent quota, and if there is a vacancy in the WR12 world ranking recommendation quota, selection will be made by the strengthening headquarters.

The ITTF will announce additional details of the Durban competition guidelines, and if there are discrepancies with these selection criteria, the Board will discuss them once more.

Only in the event that the representative decider is unable to participate due to injury or other reasons, regardless of participation in the continental qualifiers, the strengthening headquarters will decide on substitute players and pairs in accordance with the tournament requirements for the ITTF Durban Games.

* Players who have transferred their registration to the Japan Table Tennis Association from associations in other countries and regions must meet the qualification requirements for the World Championships set by the ITTF as a prerequisite for selection.
