On weekends, there are a series of common concerns in various online communities. It’s a wedding gift issue. There are not a few posts regarding how much to pay for every weekend when weddings are crowded.

One of the concerns is whether the amount should be different depending on the number of people attending the wedding or not. In particular, considering the intimacy or relationship with the other person, there are many cases where you are thinking regarding how much to pay as a congratulatory money.

On the 7th, an anonymous online community for office workers, ‘Blind’, posted a post asking for an appropriate congratulatory money.

An office worker asked how much money he should give to a co-worker who paid 50,000 won at his wedding a year ago.

He said that he had to go to a work colleague’s wedding with his spouse due to unavoidable circumstances. He added that he also knows his spouse and co-workers.

A vote was held on this post. As of 9:36 am on the same day, 80% (32 people) of the opinion that ‘two people should eat and pay 100,000 won’. The remaining 20% (8 people) are of the opinion that ‘two people should eat and pay 150,000 won’.

Another office worker asked the amount of congratulatory money for a former co-worker’s wedding. We were close when we worked together, but it’s been regarding 3 years since we met, and it is said that we ask following each other once a year.

The co-worker sent him a mobile wedding invitation and a famous hand cream while announcing the news of the marriage. The office worker who posted the post said, “The distance to the ceremony is 1 hour and 30 minutes,” and said that he plans to drive himself using his own car.

He said, “I want to congratulate you in person because we were close once. I will not eat rice, take a picture and come back.”

Opinions were divided. One office worker said that if you do not eat, you have to pay 50,000 won, and if you eat, you have to pay 100,000 won.

On the other hand, another office worker commented, “I think I would pay regarding 100,000 won if I looked only at the relationship rather than whether I had a meal or distance.”

Among newcomers to society, there is a high voice that the amount of the congratulatory money itself is burdensome.

This is because the level of appropriate congratulatory money has increased as well as the cost of wedding halls and ceremonies has risen due to inflation.

Because of this, the perception that if you do not attend the wedding is 50,000 won, and if you eat following attending the ceremony, it is 100,000 won.

As a result of a survey conducted by Marriage Information Company Duo commissioned by Macromil Embrain, the average amount of congratulatory money that 300 unmarried men and women think is 79,000 won. 50,000 won was the majority with 48% and 100,000 won with 40%.

The biggest criterion for determining the amount of congratulatory money was ‘intimacy with the person concerned’, reaching 81.3% and 85.3% for men and women, respectively.
