A new scientific study published in the journal Matter (Source 1) unveils an important innovation for the management of erectile dysfunction and the repair of penile lesions in men.
In the event of a significant penile lesion, particularly in the presence of a cancerous tumor, total or partial removal is unfortunately often the only existing therapeutic option. A fact that might change if this synthetic fabric proves itself in future clinical tests.
Here, researchers have created an artificial tunic that mimics a fibrous sheath of tissue needed to maintain a penile erection.
« We had largely anticipated the problems and results of the construction process of [cette tunique artificielle]but we were still surprised by the results of animal experiments, where the penis returned to normal erection immediately following using [ce tissu] said Xuetao Shi, a researcher at South China University of Technology, and co-author of the study.
The major advantage of this synthetic fabric lies in the fact thatit imitates the microstructure of the natural tissues of the penis. Scientists have turned to the production of biomaterials in the field of male sexual health, following realizing the high frequency of certain pathologies of the penis. According to the researchers, regarding half of men between the ages of 40 and 70 suffer from some form of dysfunction…
