Gray whale gave birth in front of a tourist boat and offered an unforgettable natural spectacle

On the coast of California, in the USA a group of tourists lived a unique experience seeing one Gray whale, of approximately 10 meters, give birth to their little calf. This miracle of life was captured on video and the images seem to be taken from a documentary.

As reviewed Metro none of the tourists who were on board the ship expected to be part of this natural spectacle.

“This is the first time for all of us. We have never seen this happen. We had seen babies shortly following they were born, we have seen baby dolphins“said the captain of the boat.

In the images, which until the followingnoon of this Thursday, January 5, 2023, exceeded 140,000 views on YouTube, you can see to the gray whale and the ballenato swim peacefully before the stunned gaze of the tourists, who were experiencing an extraordinary moment.

The gray whale holds its calf on the surface while it gets used to the waters.

The occupants of the boat at first thought that the huge animal was injured, but, upon learning that it was actually giving birth, “they went from horror to joy and amazement”.

The firm Capt Dave’s Dana Point Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari shared on digital platforms the images of the first minutes of life of the calf in the company of its mother, on the coast of Dana Strands Beach, in Dana Point, California.

As the company commented in the description of the video, gray whale calves measure around four meters when they are born and can gain 50 pounds a day if they feed on their mother’s milk.

The United States authorities stated that gray whales travel more than 800 kilometers to give birth in the shallow waters of Baja California. The sighting of these mammals is quite common in the San Ignacio lagoon, Magdalena bay and the Ojo de Liebre lagoon.
