Paris Saint-Germain superstars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are reportedly waiting for Barcelona star Frankie de Jong. Various international sports media are reporting that Messi and Mbappe want to play with De Jong.
De Jong is a crucial influence in the Catalan line-up in the role of midfielder. The youngster, who is securing a place in the team’s starting eleven, has already bagged two goals and one assist from the 18 matches he has played.
According to a report by French outlet Le Parisien, Mbappe has asked PSG to sign Frankie de Jong.
A report by Sport Mediaset states that Messi also wants to hit the ball once once more with his former teammate in Barcelona.
But it is uncertain whether PSG will make a move for De Jong as he has no interest in leaving the club.
“I feel like I’m going to play here for a long time. I don’t pay any attention to rumours. There has been no such discussion from the side of the club yet.
I don’t think I will leave Barca, I don’t expect it. But I will be very disappointed if that happens,’ he said in the Prime documentary FC Barcelona.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already stated that De Jong will not be sold.
‘In terms of De Jong, I agree that many clubs tried to sign him last summer, but he cannot be let go now.
De Jong is a very good footballer. And we know that. I assure you that we are not ready to sell him. Whatever can be discussed in the internal meetings, but above all it is the decision of the club,’ said Laporta.
De Jong came to Barca from Ajax in 2019. Barcelona brought the young player to the team for 75 million euros. After joining the team, the player has scored 15 goals and 19 assists in 158 matches. De Jong was instrumental in Barcelona winning the Copa del Rey in 2020-21 under Messi’s leadership.
