FIFA has not yet announced the amounts that will be paid to clubs participating in the Club World Cup which will take place in Morocco from February 1 to 11. These amounts generally increase from one edition to another.
While waiting for this announcement, let’s recall the previous prize money operation:
On the occasion of the edition which took place in the United Arab Emirates in February 2022, FIFA distributed to the seven teams a prize money of regarding 167 million dirhams ($16 million), broken down as follows:
– Winner: 52,1 MDH (5 million dollars) ;
– Finalists : 41,7 MDH (4 million dollars) ;
– Third place : 26 MDH (2.5 million dollars) ;
– Fourth place: 20,8 MDH (2 million dollars) ;
– Fifth place: 15,6 MDH ($1.5 million);
– Sixth place: 10,4 MDH ($1 million);
– Seventh place: 5,2 MDH (500.000 dollars).
Logically, these figures will be revised upwards during the 2023 edition, in which Wydad de Casablanca (Morocco), Real Madrid (Spain), Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Flamengo (Brazil), Auckland City (New Zealand), Al Ahly (Egypt) and the Seattle Sounders (USA) will participate ).
These clubs will be entitled not only to juicy bonuses, but also to a full support by FIFA of their costs, in particular those relating to transport and’accommodation.
Accommodation and transport at the expense of FIFA
According to the rules of the competition, FIFA bears the transport costs of the participating clubs. In this case, round-trip international plane tickets, in business class, for all members of the delegation of each participating club, up to 35 people.
This pick-up is between “the capital of the club’s country to the capital of the host country, or the nearest international airport to the site where the team is to play its first match, or any other site designated by FIFA”, specifies the rule of the competition, published on December 23, 2022.
Travel within the host country for 35 members of the participating club’s delegation is also the financial responsibility of FIFA. “A bus, a minibus, an equipment truck and a car are made available for the exclusive use of each participating club for a period commencing five days before the first game of each team and finishing a day following his last match“, specifies the same document.
The training structures for the participating clubs will also be the responsibility of FIFA, in the same way as accommodation and board for 35 members of the delegation per participating club. Accommodation and board are defined by the International Federation as follows:
– 11 double rooms and 13 single rooms;
– Meeting room ;
– An exclusive dining room;
– An equipment room;
– A treatment room;
– Three meals a day and an additional light meal on match days.
Free club tickets
Another important detail, the rooms, rooms and meals are available from five days before each team’s first game and until the day following its last game. Ditto for daily laundry services for match or training clothes.
In addition, clubs will still have some expenses to take into account. Thus, each participating club is responsible for the following aspects and related costs:
– Adequate insurance for the members of its delegation;
– Any costs incurred for additional members beyond the 35 delegates covered;
– Any costs incurred for additional equipment and/or any special request in meeting rooms and/or team locker rooms;
– Any charges incurred for menu items other than those agreed between FIFA and the team hotels;
– Any other unspecified expenses in these regulations and which has not been explicitly described as paid for by FIFA or the host association, shall be settled by the participating club concerned.
Finally, with regard to ticketing, FIFA ensures that each participating club is entitled to receive a certain number of free tickets for the competition. The total number of these tickets is communicated by FIFA during the team seminar.
