Asus unveiled at CES a new Xbox controller with… a screen. But why exactly?
The CES is a place where you can discover the most futuristic innovations as well as the craziest inventions. This ROG Raikiri Pro controller presented by Asus would fall more into the second category.
A controller with a screen
The Asus ROG Raikiri Pro is an Xbox and PC controller equipped with the usual configuration of ABXY buttons, additional keys on the back and a 1.3 inch OLED screen. Amusing at first glance, this feature seems a bit paltry on second thought.
It must be said that the first use put forward by Asus is to display animations. This is obviously what will catch your eye and what you absolutely needed in the middle ofElder Ring (Nope). Fortunately, we find some more interesting information, such as the battery level, the status of the microphone, the status of the Bluetooth pairing or the display of the profile currently used. Indications that are sometimes found on other controllers using four LEDs.
An Elite controller above all
In addition to this perfectly superfluous screen, the Asus ROG Raikiri Pro nevertheless seems to be a very complete controller. It contains all the characteristics of a very high-end controller, such as the Xbox Elite Controller 2 de Microsoft. It is possible to adjust the stroke of the triggers (short or long), there are four additional buttons on the back, the D-Pad is replaced by a concave key and it is possible to change profile on the fly using two buttons located on the upper edge.
Additionally, a DAC is included to improve audio quality when headphones are plugged into its 3.5mm jack port. Note that it connects via USB to the latest Xbox (One and Series), but can also use Bluetooth 5.0 or a direct connection (2.4 GHz) on PC.
Apart from its gimmick screen, the Asus ROG Raikiri Pro has everything to please on paper. It remains to be seen its price, which has not yet been communicated.
