Amazon also took advantage of CES 2023 to make some announcements regarding the progress of its transition to Matter. After rolling out the update bringing Matter support over Wi-Fi to 17 Echo-series devices last month, Amazon will let the Echo Gen4 speaker add Thread management (including as an edge router) eAddition of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy, plus the ability to configure Matter devices from the Alexa app for iOS/iPadOS next spring. In addition, Amazon should also take advantage of these updates to allow the Alexa App to remember and display the change in the name of a device or group of devices, whether this change took place in the app from Amazon or a third-party app (if the latter has been linked to Alexa via a skill). Users across multiple ecosystems will understand this issue very well and should be thrilled and relieved regarding this upcoming change.
