At the end of 2022, the annual variation of inflation in Colombia was 13.12%, the highest figure in 21 years and thus exceeded the projections of analysts who saw a CPI below 13%.

This was stated by the Dane this Thursday in the presentation of the December and consolidated 2022 report of the Consumer Price Index.
The figure is 7.50 percentage points higher than that reported in the same period of the previous yearwhen it was 5.62%.
For its part, according to the entity, In December inflation was 1.26%.

The annual behavior of the total CPI in December 2022 (13.12%) was mainly explained by the annual variation of the divisions Food and non-alcoholic beverages and Lodging, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. The greatest variations occurred in the Food and non-alcoholic beverages (27.81%) and Restaurants and hotels (18.54%) divisions.
The Food and non-alcoholic beverages division registered an annual variation of 27.81% and was the one with the highest participation in the total of 2022.
In December of last year, the largest price increases were registered in the subclasses arracacha, yams and other tubers (109.84%), onion (106.81%) and cassava for home consumption (88.08%).
On the other hand, the lowest price increases were reported in the subclasses raw panela for home consumption (4.10%), mineral water (with and without gas) for home consumption (8.96%) and concentrates for prepare soft drinks (9.03%).
The division Restaurants and hotels it registered an annual variation of 18.54%, and it was the second highest annual variation in the national total.
In December 2022, the highest price increases were registered in the subclasses meals prepared outside the home for immediate consumption in table service and self-service establishments (21.40%), hot drinks (20.81%) and meals in table service and self-service establishments (18.70%).
The smallest price increases were reported in the subclasses payment for food in canteens (6.90%), expenses in discotheques (7.67%) and hotel accommodation services (12.97%).
On the other hand, the division Information and communication registered an annual variation of 0.25%, and was the one with the lowest annual variation. In December 2022, the largest price increase was registered in the subclass of mobile telephony equipment, similar and repair (3.77%).
Fixed and mobile communication services and internet provision did not present annual variation. In December 2022, the largest contributions to the annual variation in the twelve divisions of the total CPI were registered in the following subclasses meals in table service and self-service establishments, with 1.25 percentage points; electricity, with 0.71 percentage points, and new or used private vehicle, with 0.58 percentage points.
The subclasses of information processing devices and hardware, medical implements, fixed and mobile communication services, and Internet provision do not present a contribution to the annual variation.
