Government retreat in the name of energy supply

At its two-day retreat in Mauerbach, Lower Austria, on January 10th and 11th, the government wants to focus on energy under the motto “Stronger out of the crisis”. “In particular, the questions of the energy supply of the future, greater independence from external influences and crisis prevention should be the focus of the exam work,” said a broadcast from the Federal Chancellery today.

Which specific topics will be presented at the exam in Lower Austria, where elections will be held at the end of January, remained open. Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) had already announced to the APA that the energy sector would “certainly also be a major topic at this government meeting”.

The Federal Chancellery said that the year 2022 was marked by multiple crises – the Russian war of aggression once morest Ukraine, the energy crisis, inflation and major challenges for the economy and labor market. “The experiences from crisis management should be used in 2023 for new projects for the future – so that Austria comes out of the crisis stronger.”

Consultations with professionals

The first day of the retreat in the Hotel Schlosspark Mauerbach should not be open to the media, rather the government wants to consult with experts on economic, geopolitical and energy policy issues, the broadcast said.

Following this, various working groups will discuss this year’s main areas of work in the individual departments. On the second day there will be a working session and a meeting of the Council of Ministers, following which the government intends to inform the public regarding the results at a press conference.
