It is very coveted during this winter transfer window. 21-year-old striker Nicolas Jackson is Southampton’s main target. Discussions between the English club and the former Casa Sports player are said to be underway, but for a loan.
Selon The AthleticSouthampton have approached Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson over a possible transfer. The Premier League outfit are in talks with Jackson’s representatives over a six-month loan with an option to buy in the summer. Talks with Villarreal, the club where he plays, have yet to take place and Southampton are not looking to significantly exceed their assigned targets in the January transfer window.
But the Spanish side are believed to be ready to listen to Jackson’s offers following the Senegal international had his minutes on the pitch reduced by new manager Quique Setien. After Unai Emery’s departure, Setien doesn’t see Jackson adapting to Villarreal’s more passing-oriented system.
Also, despite Jackson not being among their top earners, Villarreal have been looking to raise funds as their wage bill was at Champions League level last year, and they are in the Conference League this season. Southampton like Jackson’s adaptability, with the 21-year-old able to play as an attacking midfielder, striker or left winger. New Southampton manager Nathan Jones is looking to strengthen his squad this month, with the club currently bottom of the Premier League table.
