Sao Paulo> Pele left the field. The ‘king’s story’ will continue until football is forgotten. Burial was at the Memorial Necropole Ecumenical Cemetery near the Santos Stadium in Brazil, where a public viewing took place. Only family members attended the ceremony.
The four-and-a-half-acre cemetery is modeled following a huge flat complex. There are 16,000 tombstones in 14 floors. It was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest cemetery. Pele’s father Dodino is also buried here. From here you can see Santos Stadium. Thousands paid their respects during the two-day public darshan. Brazilian President Lula da Silva came to console the family members.
Fans arrived with flowers and the number 10 jersey. Then a mourning procession along Santos street with the national flag draped. Pele, who was suffering from cancer, died on Friday morning.
