A color and texture sensor at the tip of the pen!
The Californian firm has indeed a new patent for a version 3 which can sample colors or textures real world objects or people. This function will allow you to switch to your iPad (not your iPhone) in order to use this same tone.
In the text, it is specified that everything will be in the pen tip. This will incorporate a complex light sensor that can detect the color and texture of a surface. Note that Apple filed a patent for a similar feature in June 2020, and yet it never materialized despite the many rumors for a new generation.
What if Apple further developed the hover function of the Apple Pencil?
Unfortunately this very interesting function is not guaranteed, and may never see the light of day. But all hope is not lost, because it is in line with the Apple Pencil overview on the iPad Pro M2.
As a reminder, the new tablet automatically detects when the stylus is close to the screen and offers technical functions. Thus it is possible to have a preview of a pencil line or filters in a photo editing app. We might also imagine options to select a color in a photo.
For now, Apple keeps the two models of Apple Pencil that it launched, the Apple Pencil 1 launched in 2015 with the very first iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil 2 in 2017 with the redesign of the line. Since then, it has extended the models compatible with one and the other, including the iPad 10 – through a dubious Lighting adapter.
