Formula 1 | FIA to start process for new teams in F1

The Andretti family was hoping for some news from the FIA before Christmas, which will finally have fallen following the New Year. Great news has indeed just arrived on the evening of January 2, 2023.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the Federation, has just confirmed this evening that the arrival of an 11th team might well materialize in the future.

“I have asked my team at the FIA to consider initiating a process for expressions of interest for potential new teams for the Formula 1 World Championship,” he wrote without giving further details.

It is thanks to this process and then a possible call for tenders that an 11th team (or more) might be admitted to Formula 1. This must obviously be done in concert with the FOM and the teams since a system preventing the dilution of the value of the championship and of income has been in place since the signing of the Concorde Accords.

Among those interested, there are obviously Michael and Mario Andretti but the current attractiveness of F1 and its mechanisms of income and budget ceiling make the sport a much more interesting discipline than a few years ago. Manufacturers might be interested, such as Porsche, still without a partner for 2026, or even Honda.
