Oklahoma fans troll Lincoln Riley and USC after Tulane’s Cotton Bowl win.

Oklahoma Sooners fans were quick to mock former coach Lincoln Riley, whose USC Trojans lost a 45-30 lead to Tulane’s Green Wave in the Cotton Bowl.

So far, 2023 has treated Oklahoma Sooners fans well. Make no mistake, the Sooners football team didn’t have a stellar season, as they finished 6-7 in their first year under coach Brent Venables. The coaching change came following longtime head coach Lincoln Riley left the program for the USC Trojans. Let’s just say the Sooners faithful were interested in Riley’s games, that is, his opponents.

On Monday, Oklahoma fans watched as USC lost a 45-30 lead to the Tulane Green Wave, who won the Cotton Bowl 46-45.

In that final stretch of the game, the Trojans gave up a four-yard run for the touchdown to Tyjae Spears four minutes from time, were tackled in their own end zone for a safety, and a pass from six yards for Michael Pratt’s touchdown to Alex Bauman just nine seconds from time.

Tulane fans may have been happy following the impressive win, but Oklahoma fans were downright ecstatic on Twitter.

USC looked set to win a bowl game for the first time since the 2016 season, when quarterback Sam Darnold led the Trojans to a 52-49 win over Penn State in the Rose Bowl. Instead, they once once more end their season without a trophy.

The Trojans took a 28-14 first-half lead following three touchdown passes from quarterback and Heisman winner Caleb Williams, and a touchdown run from Raleek Brown. However, the Green Wave were able to get back into the game thanks to three second-half touchdown runs by Spears.

After Spears’ fourth touchdown, running back Austin Jones was tackled in USC’s own end zone, cutting Tulane’s deficit to 45-39. This allowed Tulane to potentially win the game. This came to fruition following a 12-game action, which ended with Bauman’s reception, which was deemed incomplete, but canceled on replay (reception was clear).

Every time Riley loses, Oklahoma fans are ready to celebrate. His last loss happened to come in the last game of his debut season.
