Football: Marseille beats Montpellier and remains on the podium
The Marseillais suffered at the end of the match, but returned victorious from their trip to the Mosson stadium. Nice beaten at Rennes.
Olympique de Marseille won 2-1 on Monday evening in Montpellier, who played with Jonas Omlin in goal, during the 17th day of Ligue 1, signing a fourth victory in a row which allows them to hold the rhythm demanded by Lens.
The Olympians, who remain on the third step of the podium, four points behind the Lensois and eight behind PSG, found the opening in the 47th minute through Nuno Tavares and doubled the lead on an own goal from Maxime Estève under pressure from Chancel Mbemba in the 61st.
Téji Savanier revived the suspense from the penalty spot (91st) as OM were down to ten following the expulsion of Tavares three minutes earlier.
Nice beat
In the other matches on the day, Jordan Lotomba served Ross Barkley for Nice’s 1-1 at Rennes, but the men coached by Lucien Favre finally lost 1-2 on an 89th-minute goal from Bourigeaud. Nice is eleventh in the standings while the Rennais take 4th place, 10 points behind Paris.
In the evening, Lille (7th) and Reims (10th) separated in a draw (1-1) and Troyes (13th) moved away from the relegation zone by going to win 3-2 in Strasbourg (19th).
