A shipment of thinners is also expected to arrive.
The US oil producer, Chevron Corp, sent two oil tankers to Venezuela to charter the first shipment of crude oil destined for the United States (USA) in almost four years, approaching Venezuelan waters this Friday, according to a source cited by international agencies.
Similarly, a second tanker with a shipment of diluents for a Chevron oil joint venture will arrive in the country early next month, the spokesman said.
“The Bahamas-flagged tanker Caribbean Voyager is set to load Venezuelan oil for export to the United States in the coming days, while the Marshall Islands-flagged Uacc Eagle will sail to the oil port of José in Venezuela. , for the purpose of unloading naphtha for the Petropiar joint venture,” the spokesperson explained.
The US has issued a six-month license to Chevron, which authorizes it to take a larger role in four Venezuelan oil joint ventures, which produce, process and export crude, and bring its oil to the United States.
The US license will reopen oil flows that were shut down by US government sanctions nearly four years ago.
The license was one of Washington’s first steps to ease sanctions on the country, as an incentive for Venezuela to work with opposition leaders, in a presidential election in late 2023.
In this regard, Washington officials said further relaxation of Venezuelan oil sanctions might occur if talks with the opposition continue.
