This Belkin stand holds an iPhone to your Mac screen

Like PCs, Macs don’t have the best webcams in the world. To improve the quality of video calls, Apple has developed a very effective function: using the iPhone as a webcam! But it is still necessary to be able to place the smartphone correctly on the computer.

With iOS 16 and macOS Monterey, the new iPhone and Mac operating systems available since this fall, it is possible to use the smartphone as a computer webcam. This function called “Continuity on the camera” allows you to take advantage of the very good quality of the iPhone’s photo sensors, to the delight of your Zoom or Teams correspondents.

For all desktop Macs

Effective as it is, this feature hides a problem, however: where to position the iPhone to get the best results? The answer is right above the Mac screen of course, but the difficulty doesn’t stop there since there is no easy way to hold the phone on the edge of the screen. Fortunately, Belkin thought of a solution with dedicated support.

Until now, the only existing version of this accessory was intended for the screens of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops. A new version has appeared, this time adapted to most desktop Mac displays, whether it’s the iMac or external monitors (the Studio Display or the Pro Display XDR, and also all the others from third-party brands) .

This desktop iPhone stand for Mac, currently available in the US and Canada, allows you to quickly mount an iPhone with MagSafe (from iPhone 12) on the edge of the screen. The magnetic stand accommodates most monitor thicknesses. The iPhone can be used in portrait or landscape, and the hinge offers a downward angle of up to 25 degrees. The support also has a screw thread to be mounted on a tripod.

The accessory is sold for $39.95, unfortunately it is only available at the end of January and there is currently no date of availability for France.
