Moroccan director Majida Benkirane has come out of her silence following her film “Coins du désert, Coins de la patrie”, caused the suspension of activities at the documentary film festival in the city of Laayoune, which was accompanied by numerous criticisms of the director by members of the Saharan tribe “Reguibat”.
Benkirane said in a blog post via his personal Facebook account that the film “corners of the desert, corners of the homeland” was artistically treated through an intellectual question that cares regarding the place of the corners and their role in reinforcing of the pillars of the homeland and of religion, and that what was disclosed of the intervention of the research professor, through which he touched on one of the most important symbols, had no prior intention“, adding : negligence in this matter should be borne by everyone, not only by the director, whose task is mainly limited to the technical and artistic side alone.
Benkirane also revealed that “she was contacted by a cultural events group in the city of Laayoune immediately following the tape aired, and the matter was discussed with them.
