North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea on the 1st of Korean peninsula time, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that North Korea detected a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) launched into the East Sea from the Yongseong area of Pyongyang at around 2:50 am on the same day.
The South Korean military is analyzing detailed specifications such as speed and altitude of the missile.
“We are maintaining a full readiness posture while closely cooperating with the United States while strengthening surveillance and vigilance,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.
North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile came one day following it fired a short-range ballistic missile on the 31st, the previous day.
Previously, the Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the previous day, North Korea had captured three short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) launched into the East Sea from the area of Junghwa County, North Hwanghae Province.
South Korean media interpreted North Korea’s provocations for two days in a row as a response to the South Korean military’s test flight of a solid fuel-powered space launch vehicle.
Previously, the South Korean military announced that it had successfully test-launched a space launch vehicle with a solid fuel propulsion engine reaching a peak altitude of 450 km from the Anheung Proving Ground in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do on the 30th of last month.
