Guatemala. Nestlé, together with its Nestlé Professional culinary unit, celebrated International Chef Day with a special activity whose main objective was to encourage Guatemalan children to have a healthy lifestyle.
This action is part of the “Nestlé for Healthy Children” program, an initiative that unifies and accelerates all efforts aimed at helping 50 million children around the world lead healthier lives by 2030.
“We are aware of the urgent need to solve serious problems such as overweight, obesity and child malnutrition. That is why we carry out activities to involve children and encourage them to adopt healthier eating habits. In addition to celebrating International Chef Day, we are also promoting nutrition, a key element in ensuring the healthy development of Guatemalan children,” said Caridad Barillas, Commercial Manager of Nestlé Professional Guatemala.
The activity had the participation of Luis Castillo, director of the Chef Center, Eduardo Tobar, executive chef of Hotel Las Américas and Andreé Jocol, assistant chef and young person from the Yocuta program, who cooked together with the children, preparing delicious and healthy dishes.
“The children were protagonists in the preparation of the meals, they were chefs for a day and with this we showed them that healthy cooking can also be fun. In addition, during the day we conveyed positive messages regarding the importance of eating a good diet for healthy growth, implementing best practices to improve the quality of their diet,” added Miguel Ramos, chef at Nestlé Professional Guatemala.
The event was held for centers of the Secretariat of Social Affairs Municipality of Guatemala, located in Zone 2 of the capital city, among these primary level students of the Official Urban School for boys Los Cedros and primary level students of the School for Las Rosas girls, who in addition to cooking with professional chefs, received information on the importance of portions at each meal time, hygiene in food preparation and the choice of nutritious and healthy ingredients, such as vitamins and minerals provided by fruits and vegetables, among other topics of interest.
Nestlé calls on parents in Guatemala to take care of their children’s diet, as this is essential for a healthier future that benefits the whole family.
