Motorists who will have to travel for the New Year festivities will have quite a surprise at the pump as gas prices continue to rise in Quebec.

From one week to another, the average price at the pump went from $1.50 per liter to $1.55 on Friday for Montreal gas stations.
Already higher in Quebec City during the holidays, gasoline is now close to $1.62 per liter in the Capitale-Nationale region, according to figures from CAA-Quebec. On the other side of the river, in Lévis, the price jumped from $1.43 per liter on Thursday to $1.58 on Friday morning.
The inhabitants of Bas-Saint-Laurent will also have to put their hands in the wallet, with $1.59 per liter of gasoline.
Conversely, residents of Gatineau are among the lucky ones, since the average price at the pump is $1.40 per litre.
