Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff wouldn’t normally pay attention to Red Bull’s driver line-up, but admits Nick de Vries hopes to get the chance one day.
Nick de Vries has been given the opportunity to join the F1 grid with Scuderia AlphaTauri in 2023 following serving as a reserve driver for the Mercedes F1 team. He impressed many following stepping in for Williams at the weekend of the 2022 F1 Italian Grand Prix, replacing an unwell Alex Albon.
Nick de Vries will join the Red Bull squad following receiving a memorable send-off from Mercedes F1 at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
“I’ve thought regarding it,” Wolff told Swiatwyscigow when asked if he would be willing to bring Nick de Vries back to Mercedes F1 if his relationship with Scuderia AlphaTauri doesn’t work out.
“But I hope he stays there and I hope he succeeds at AlphaTauri.”
“He deserves it and hopefully one day he will be able to get a seat at Red Bull.”
Toto Wolff also says he hopes Nick de Vries’ success will allow him to compete with his team.
“We will take it as sportsmen and fight,” added Wolff.
