Mountain Butorac, which in networks calls itself The Catholic Traveler (The Catholic Traveler), explained in a video what the “death bell” that would ring if Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died.
In a video recorded in the Plaza de San Pedro this December 29, Butorac said that almost every day he is attentive to the chimes in San Pedro, starting at 7:00 in the morning.
“The lowest sound occurs every 15 minutes; and the tallest marks the hours, ”he specified over the ringing of the bells of St. Peter’s Basilica.
“If you have ever been to Rome at Christmas or Easter, you will have seen that instead of striking the big bell, that bell literally sways and generates a deep, loud and powerful tone that, on a calm day, is heard throughout Rome. ”, recounted the Catholic traveler.
“So when the Pope dies, the big bell is rung,” he added. “That’s what you hear and that’s what you use, not the little bells,” she said.
Boutorac further said that he does not know if this will be used when Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI dies, “and if they do we will have to see it.”
This Thursday the Vatican reported that Benedict XVI “got a good rest last night, he is absolutely lucid and alert.”
Matteo Bruni, director of the Vatican Press Office, said that “although his condition remains serious, the situation at the moment is stable.”
He also said that “Pope Francis renews his invitation to pray for him and accompany him in these difficult hours.”
