The Swiss team logically suffered the law of the United States Thursday in Moncton in the U20 world championship.
Marco Bayer’s players lost 5-1 to Team USA, who were keen to recover following being beaten by Slovakia the day before.
Crushed 7-1 by this same opponent during the previous world meeting, the Swiss selection might never believe in the feat. “We lacked discipline and were penalized too often,” regretted Swiss captain Attilio Biasca, who scored the honorary goal – 4-1 – 28” from the end of the second period.
The United States found the fault twice on the power play, both times in the second period where they cheated young goalkeeper Alessio Beglieri (18) three times to take the 4-0 lead. Jimmy Snuggerud (2 goals) and Logan Cooley (1 goal, 1 assist) were the guarantors of American success.
This defeat, the 23rd in 25 duels with the Americans at the U20 World Cup (for two draws), is of no consequence. Already guaranteed to take part in the quarter-finals following their two initial victories, the Swiss team will approach their face-to-face with Slovakia without too much pressure on Saturday.
