Dementia is a collective term for disorders in which brain cells or the connections between brain cells slowly disappear. The brain processes information less well, which leads to a deterioration of body and mind. One of the most common forms of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease – in regarding three out of four cases.
In an early stage of dementia, patients hardly notice it, but as the disease progresses slowly, the symptoms may become increasingly clear. It then goes from a forgetful or poor memory to, in a later phase, possible speech problems, behavior change, problems with daily tasks
Dementia usually affects older people, but there is also young dementia, when the first symptoms appear in people under the age of 65.
