Experienced by Indra Bekti, Can Hypertension Trigger Brain Bleeding?

Jakarta

The famous presenter Indra Bekti was rushed to the hospital yesterday following being found unconscious in the bathroom. Reportedly, his fainting was triggered by a brain hemorrhage. It is also known that Indra Bekti has a history of high blood pressure or hypertension in the past year.

“As for the diagnosis itself, all we know was that there was hypertension,” said Indra Bekti’s sister, Cipta, when met at Abdi Waluyo Hospital, Wednesday (28/12/2022).

“We know hypertension, he did tell me, following treatment there was hypertension, in the last few weeks there have been complaints of dizziness, dizziness, we suggest resting, he wants to work, work, work,” he added.

High blood pressure or hypertension can damage the body for years before symptoms develop. Especially if high blood pressure is not controlled, it can cause disability, poor quality of life, to a fatal heart attack or stroke.

A neurosurgeon specialist from Primaya Hospital, East Bekasi, Dr. Rudy Yunanto, SpBS, revealed that hypertension is one of the causes of brain hemorrhage. In addition, the cause of brain bleeding can also be triggered due to blood disorders and collisions in the head.

“Brain hemorrhages can occur due to hypertension, cerebral vascular disorders, blood disorders, head collisions,” said Dr. Rudy to detikcom.

Quoted from the Mayo Clinic, one of the dangers of hypertension is damage to the arteries. It is known, healthy arteries are flexible, strong, and elastic. The inner layer is smooth so that blood flows freely, working to supply nutrients and oxygen to vital organs and tissues.

However, due to high blood pressure, the blood pressure in the arteries gradually increases. In this case, hypertension can cause:

Damaged and narrowed arteries

High blood pressure can damage the cells lining the arteries. When fat from food enters the bloodstream, it collects in the damaged artery. Eventually, the walls of the arteries become less elastic, restricting blood flow throughout the body.

aneurysm

Over time, the constant pressure of blood through the weakened artery can cause a section of the wall to enlarge and form a bulge (aneurysm). The aneurysm runs the risk of rupturing and triggering life-threatening internal bleeding. An aneurysm can form in any artery, but it’s most common in the body’s largest artery (aorta).

Stroke Risk

Stroke occurs when the brain does not get enough oxygen and nutrients so that the cells in the brain die. As a result, blood vessels damaged by high blood pressure can narrow, burst or leak.

High blood pressure can also cause blood clots in the arteries leading to the brain, blocking blood flow and potentially causing a stroke.
