Comment from Tadashi Yatabe U-12 coach

Q: Looking back at the tournament, regarding the result of the best 8.
“In this tournament, the players also want to aim for the best in Japan, so we started this season.
It was amazing to be able to overcome what I thought was a mountainous qualifying round. After that, I was able to win one in the final tournament.
Even in today’s quarterfinals, they finished 1-2, but the fact that they scored one goal made me feel that they have improved, and I think it was a tournament where we might see their growth.
On the other hand, the players were aiming for the best in Japan, and I was aiming for that too. Regarding the result of finishing in the best 8, I have to look back on the past year as it was not enough to reach the best in Japan. As a manager, I also told the players, “Let’s take home that this year was not the best year in Japan”.
Looking back frankly, I still lacked strength. However, I would like to return to Matsumoto with pride as I am the first prefecture team to make the best 8, and I hope that they will lead me to the next one.

Q: What did you learn from the competition and what challenges did you face?
“I tell my children that ‘a title cannot be taken to the next category.’ Throughout the season, we weren’t able to make it through the group stage at the Little Olympics and the World Challenge, but we made an effort to overcome that, and we were able to make it through the qualifying rounds. I think that’s what I got from the competition.
As for our task, we have to improve our individual strengths, which can be said in any match in the group league, including today’s Registrar and yesterday’s Sorezo (Kumamoto). While managing the team as a team and taking countermeasures, the players who responded well are wonderful, but as an individual, I have to improve when I think regarding the future. Players, coaches, and clubs should not look away from that.”

Comment from captain Oga Yoshizawa

“The first goal was scored, so I didn’t speak out much, and another goal was scored, which put us in a difficult situation. It was a frustrating match with one goal far away.
We have been eliminated from the qualifying rounds in national competitions such as the Chibi Olympics and the World Challenge, but in this tournament we were able to make it through the qualifying rounds, and I think it was a great tournament in which we were able to grow while showing our strengths.”
