Club Brugge announced their decision in a statement on Wednesday morning. For the time being, the Venice of the North club has not communicated its replacement. According to the Nieuwsblad, the players have been given a week off before the January 8 restart once morest Genk.

A former Club Brugge player, Hoefkens began his coaching career there as an assistant for the U18s and U21s. He then became assistant coach of the core A. Appointed as main coach to replace Alfred Schreuder last May, Carl Hoefkens achieved a historic career in the Champions League with a qualification for the knockout stages. But in recent months, the uneven results and the level of play displayed, especially in the league, were below the expectations of the Bruges management.
After the elimination in the Cup, a crisis meeting had taken place but Hoefkens had been confirmed in his post. He had one last chance once morest OHL but the split sealed his fate.
