Defamation on websites and new media will be dealt with strictly: Minister of Justice | Conso news

In his response to a question in the House of Representatives on the “phenomenon of electronic defamation in Morocco”, presented by the group of the National Rally of Independents, Mr. Ouahbi indicated that the Court of Cassation rendered a judgment, the week previous one, which he considers “an important step forward”, explaining that what is published on social networks does not fall under the prerogatives of the Press and Publishing Code, but of the Penal Code.

The minister also considered that this case law “will push the public prosecutor’s office towards the application of the criminal law on social networks”, noting that the draft criminal law, which will soon be presented to the legislative institution, includes provisions which ” reinforce repression once morest attacks on individual freedoms”.

Furthermore, the minister noted that the Budapest Convention on the fight once morest cybercrime was signed last year by Morocco, noting that it is a binding convention.
