This mod for The Witcher 3 gives Vesemir a more gritty look, following early concept art

In the original concept art for The Witcher 3, Vesemir’s armor was painted in brighter colors (lighter, brighter brown shoulder pads and pants, and a red tunic underneath), and he looked much older and more menacing, befitting his role as grumpy grandfather. In the final version, his armor is done in more muted colors, which gives his set an overall washed-out and second-hand look – quite suitable for a veteran witcher.

However, one fan liked this concept so much that he decided to bring this look into the remastered version of The Witcher 3. Vesemir has a thinner face, looks older, has more wrinkles, has brighter clothes and a color scheme closer to concept art. It almost completely repeats the original design and feels right at home in the more colorful world of The Witcher 3.

“They already appeared in the prologue of the first game, but since then the engine has changed a lot, and therefore Geralt’s friends – Eskel and Lambert, as well as his teacher and mentor Vesemir – had to be created almost from scratch,” the concept art description says. “However, for continuity, the old sketches and face models of the witchers made for the first game were used as a starting point for new concepts and models.”

The concept art says they wanted to convey Vesemir’s indescribable age – we know he’s an old man, but how old is he? Nobody knows. He’s been around for a long time and his armor was designed with that in mind. However, when he’s not grumbling, he’s a friend and mentor, and the colorful set reflects that from the start. Thus, Concept Vesemir recolors armor… improves skin and armor detail, reworks facial textures… hair color, making it whiter, [и] adds a beard.
