Capcom has stopped fan remakes of Resident Evil 1 and Code Veronica.
Matt Croft, Briins Croft, and DarkNemesisUmbrella, the developers behind the fan remakes of Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, have announced that Capcom has halted the projects. This was revealed via the developers’ official Discord server.
At the same time, the developers emphasized that this is not an indication that Capcom is working on a remake of Code Veronica – although I don’t think it’s that unlikely.
The reason given for the stop is that it is due to the use of Capcom’s own characters and the Resident Evil brand. Some have suggested that developer donation links might be another reason for the forced stop, as it might be construed to benefit the team from the game. However, the team denies this.
Either way, the remakes are now history. pity somehow. Here’s the official tweet regarding it:
Code Veronica and Resident Evil fan remakes are officially canceled by Capcom.
We apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment. All info on the developer discord. Thank you.
