The increase in the minimum wage was confirmed by a government decree. From now on, it will stand at 1353 € net. The details.
After having increased by 0.9% in January 2022, by 2.65% in May 2022, then by 2.01% in August 2022, the Smic will increase once more by 1.81% on January 1, 2023. “An increase of 6.6% over one year”communicated the government, following the publication of the official decree validating this new revaluation.
In concrete terms, this represents an increase of €106.16 gross per month, which brings the net salary, on the basis of 35 hours per week, to €1,353. That is a gain of €24 per month. Over 12 months, the minimum wage therefore represents an income of €16,236 net and €20,508 gross. “France is one of the only countries to have such a protective mechanism for the purchasing power of the most modest employees”, once more commented the Ministry of Labour, Full Employment and Integration. The French minimum wage is ranked 6th in Europe behind Luxembourg, Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany. In ten years, it has gone from €1,121 in 2013, to €1,174 in 2018, €1,231 in 2021, to reach €1,353 in 2023.
Also for the civil service
On the same day, the government indicated that in the Public Service, from January 1, 2023, the minimum salary will be increased to €1,712.06 gross monthly. Nearly 409,000 public officials employed by the State, local authorities and public health establishments are concerned.
However, several unions have already estimated that these successive increases will be insufficient in the face of ever-increasing inflation. With an increase of 6.2% over one year according to INSEE, it has reached levels not seen since the 1980s.
