Abdul Reda Abbas, the former Kuwaiti national team goalkeeper, announced that he decided to travel from the State of Kuwait to the city of Basra on foot, in support of the twenty-fifth edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup, which will be held in the Iraqi city from 6 to 19 January next.
Abbas said that he made a promise to himself since 2012 to go on foot to Basra in the event that the Gulf Cup was held there, and “the time has come to fulfill this promise.” He added that he will set off on the third of next month from Jabriya in Kuwait, heading to the Safwan border crossing to enter Iraq. He concluded that he seeks to “deliver a sports message to the world, in which I embody the love of Iraq and the Iraqi people who love sports and breathe football, and we remember the history of this country, its civilization, its nobles and its knights, and that it is able to reunite and embrace the brothers through the establishment of large international tournaments.”
