The Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation (UFFK) demanded that Russian Anna Shcherbakova be excluded from the list of nominees for the Most Valuable Skater of the Year prize, which is awarded by the International Skating Union (ISU). The leaders of the national federation sent the corresponding letters to ISU President Chae Yol Kim and head of the ISU Athletes Commission Eric Radford, the press service of the UFC reported.

“UFFK is outraged by the nomination of Russian figure skater Anna Shcherbakova for the ISU Skating Awards and asks the leadership of the union to respond to this fact and exclude her from the list of nominees,” the report says.

Shcherbakova is an the only representative of Russia in the list of contenders for the ISU award. Other nominees included Kaori Sakamoto Yuma Kagiyama, Shoma Uno (all Japan), Nathan Chen (USA), Japanese couple Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara, Chinese couple Sui Wenjing and Han Cong, and French dance duo Gabriela Papadakis and Guillaume Sizeron performing in ice dancing.

Shcherbakova, Chen, Sui Wenjing/Han Cong and Papadakis/Cizeron are Olympic champions.

Shcherbakova is also the world champion (2021), two-time silver medalist of the European Championships (2020, 2022) in women’s single skating, winner of the world team championship (2021).

In March, the ISU suspended all Russian athletes from international tournaments.
