Bukele assured in his message that honest people do not have to fear the operation, and this does not apply to criminals: “All terrorists, drug traffickers and gang members will be removed from this community, a bastion of crime until a few months ago. Honest citizens have nothing to fear and can continue to lead their lives as normal.
second besieged zone
This military siege in Tutunichapa, which is a neighborhood of the capital San Salvador, is the second implemented by the Bukele government, following initiating what they have called the fifth phase of the Territorial Control Plan, called “extraction”, whose strategy is to close the most dangerous sectors of the country as a measure to capture gang members.
“With Phase 5 we are going to finish removing this plague from our cities and El Salvador will be an example for the world, although it will not be easy,” Bukele declared on November 24.
The emergency regime allows arrests without a warrant, and was established in response to an escalation of violence that caused the death of 87 people, between March 25 and 27 of this year.
President Bukele recently declared that Christmas 2022 would be the first time that Salvadorans would be at peace “This is the first time that Salvadorans are enjoying a truly peaceful Christmas. Peace is no longer a distant dream or an empty word, it is now a reality.” assured the Salvadoran head of state in a message that he also posted on his Twitter account, along with his wife Gabriela Rodríguez and their little daughter Layla.
Relatives of presumably innocent detainees, claim Bukele
Recently, the relatives of detainees in San Salvador held a night march to ask the government of Nayib Bukele to release the detainees for Christmas. These prisoners have been arrested during the state of emergency in which the country is the country since March.
In the Bajo Lempa region, people also came out to demand the release of their relatives. In this region a committee is monitoring the arrests. It is the Committee of Relatives of Victims of the Exception Regime of Bajo Lempa and has documented 111 arrests between the municipalities of Jiquilisco, Usulután and Puerto El Triunfo.
According to the newspaper The printing press, the representatives of the Committee presented 111 ‘habeas corpus’ before the Supreme Court of Justice. So far, the Constitutional Chamber made observations in 26 of these, in 15 cases it declared them inadmissible and they have not yet received a response from the rest.
