Bolsonaro defines destiny and what he will do with the banner held by Lula

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will not hand over the presidential sash to president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on January 1 during the inauguration ceremony. On this date, he will be out of the country, according to journalist Thaís Oyama, in her column on UOL.

According to the column, Bolsonaro told friends that he will spend some time at the Mar-a-Lago condominium, in Palm Beach, Florida.

The space, which houses a luxury resort, belongs to the companies of former President Donald Trump. The current president already had dinner with Trump at the property in March 2020, during an official visit to the then American president, at the beginning of the new coronavirus pandemic.

The column was unable to confirm whether Bolsonaro will stay at Trump’s residence or in another house on the property. With a trip scheduled for the 28th, Bolsonaro told friends that he intends to rest for one or two months in the US state.

The clash over the delivery of the presidential sash is not new. Jair Bolsonaro even cited two reasons for the decision. One of them is that there is no condition to participate in the ceremony following the exchange of accusations between Lula and him during the 2022 elections. The information is from Metrópoles columnist Paulo Cappelli.

The other reason would be the performance of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) during this year’s election. Bolsonaro believes that, throughout his campaign, he has received unequal treatment from the Court. For him, attending the ceremony would validate the electoral process.
