From the Nutrition Service of the Hospital Escuela de Agudos “Dr. Ramón Madariaga” share some recommendations to keep in mind to eat a healthy diet this holiday season. They recommend planning, not skipping meals, choosing a menu with oven cooking, which includes vegetables, fruits and lean meats and the choice of drinks such as water, natural juices or low-calorie sodas. Control the consumption of salt and alcohol.
Therefore, the person in charge of the aforementioned Service, Lic. Moira Mazzanti, stressed the importance of planning “it is very important to plan, if we go with family or friends, we must agree on who cooks and what each one is going to prepare. Let’s keep in mind that the more variety of dishes we make, the more we are going to eat, since we want to try how each of the preparations came out and thus increase our intake”.
To this he added “choosing a menu is ideal, it can include starter, main course and dessert. Also, it is advisable to prepare the fair portion per person, since if we cook more, we eat more and what is left over the next day we continue to consume without control.
Another recommendation that the nutritionist gave was not to skip meals during the Christmas and New Year holidays. “Throughout the day it is important not to restrict meals in order to save upfront and justify large intakes at night. Make the usual meals; breakfast, lunch, followingnoon snack and dinner. This will help to arrive with less appetite and anxiety at the time of the celebration.
Also, Moira Mazzanti, referred to the choice of food. “In the preparations, include vegetables and fruits, incorporate seasonal ones that are less expensive and are what the body needs for the high temperatures that await us. If the preparations contain meat, opt for lean cuts, remove the visible fat and the skin of the chicken, before cooking them. Prefer heavy preparations”.
Also, he emphasized cooking food “to make food healthier, we recommend that preparations be made in the oven, grill, or grill instead of frying.”
At the same time, he added other points to take into account that have to do with salt consumption and good digestion. “Use aromatic seasonings for preparations such as oregano, bay leaf, parsley, chili pepper, pepper, cinnamon, mint, garlic, thus reducing the use of salt. Eat slowly, in small bites and chew your food well. Above all enjoy each of the preparations. Control portion size.
In the same way, he addressed the issue of the choice of drinks at parties. “Opt for drinks like water, natural juices or low-calorie sodas.
Do not exceed the consumption of alcohol. Do not forget to include regular physical activity.
Finally, he commented “restricting yourself is useless, always share and enjoy in a measured and healthy way”.
