Local media reported that the match between Al-Ahly and Al-Ittihad of Alexandria in the Egyptian Basketball Super Cup was canceled following part of the stands in the Hassan Mustafa Hall in the 6th of October City, where Al-Ittihad fans crowded, fell, causing some injuries yesterday, Saturday.
And the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that 27 people were injured in the collapse, and the ministry’s spokesman, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said in a statement that the initial inventory of the accident indicated that the injuries included fractures and bleeding, adding that most of them were “non-life-threatening.”
The ministry announced that 21 ambulances are helping transport the injured to hospitals.
The match is interrupted
The meeting stopped at the end of the third quarter, and Al-Ittihad of Alexandria was ahead 67-45.
Reports stated that an iron fence collapsed on the fans, two ambulances arrived for some injuries, and fans called for the match to be cancelled.
While the Egyptian Basketball Federation did not officially announce the cancellation of the match, the hall lights were turned off, amid speculation that the two teams would leave.
