Dan Hay (ex-Far Cry), at the head of the new survival game from Blizzard | XboxOne

There is movement at Blizzard at the end of 2022! In the middle of the soap opera of its acquisition by Microsoft, the studio announces the arrival of Dan Hay within its workforce. The individual, known for his work on the Far Cry franchise, is set to lead the development team for Blizzard’s next survival game.

A new dynamic

A little over a year ago, we learned the discreet departure by Dan Hay, Ubisoft. Having accompanied the Far Cry license, from Far Cry 3 at the very recent Far Cry 6, the former creative director has taken a new professional turn by joining Blizzard. It is in a official blog posttitled “Year-End Update” that Blizzard unveiled its plans for the future.

Dan Hay will therefore be part of it, since he joins and will lead the teams of Survival Game (internal code name), the brand new license of the studio of which we evoked development, a few months ago. The game, although very mysterious at the moment, would be at the crossroads of titles such as Everwild or Fable. In his blog post, Blizzard’s Mike Ybarra describes the arrival of Dan Hay in these terms:

Dan Hay, General Manager of Survival Game: Leading the team that infuses the genre with Blizzard magic while crafting our first new IP since Overwatch. The size of the team has doubled this year and we are looking to grow it even more in the new year!

This nameless survival game presents itself as an ambitious project, which will have to honor the licenses that have made the success of the studio: Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft or the recent Overwatch 2. There is no doubt that the contribution of an industry veteran such as Dan Hay will be beneficial to the development of this new license which we can’t wait to learn more regarding.
