Ovechkin is now the second leading scorer in NHL history

Last night, on the last night of action in the National Hockey League before the holiday break, there were 11 games on the schedule.

Here’s what caught the eye.

1. Alex Ovechkin becomes the second leading scorer in NHL history

Well there you have it, the “great eight” made another page of NHL history last night by scoring his 801st and 802nd goals of his career, tying and surpassing Gordie Howe for second all-time scoring of the NHL.

So only Wayne Gretzky remains ahead of Ovechkin in this ranking.

Gretzky has 894. So Ovi is 93 short of the best player of all time.

Here are the two goals the Russian Capitals forward scored in the Washington Capitals’ 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

After the game, the Jets players took the time to shake hands with Ovechkin to congratulate him.

The Caps players were obviously all smiles following the game.

Here is the video made by the Capitals.

2. Connor McDavid is the first player to 30 goals this season

Since we were talking regarding one of the greatest players of all time, why not talk regarding another who will most likely go down in the history books of the NHL: Connor McDavid.

Last night, the Oilers’ No. 97 scored his 30th goal of the season in just his 35th game.

He is the first player in the league to reach this milestone this season.

Since he’s been in the NHL, McDavid has always scored a lot of goals, but he was never defined as the NHL’s leading scorer.

Well, this season that might very well be the case with him on a pace of 70 goals in 82 games.

Let’s see if he will be able to continue this momentum.

As for the game itself, the Oilers lost once more, this time 5-2 to the Vancouver Canucks.

The Oilers are currently out of the playoffs, one point behind the Calgary Flames.

In the win, Bo Horvat scored his 400th career point.

3. Jesperi Kotkaniemi inscrit son 5e but de la saison

The former Montreal Canadiens player is not having a great season yet once more. Every year, this is expected to be the season when he comes out of his shell, but it doesn’t happen.

The fact remains that in a difficult season like this for Kotkaniemi, he must find his confidence in the few positive elements.

The positive element right now is that KK has a point in its last three games.

Last night he scored his fifth goal of the season, taking his total points this season to 10 for 34.

Let’s see if Kotkaniemi will be able to build on that.

4. First NHL goal for Aatu Räty

Do you remember this famous Aatu Räty?

Yes, yes, the young Finn who was seen as the potential first overall pick in the 2021 draft.

Räty ultimately had a rather disappointing season in the Finnish premier league, which saw him drop in the draft to 52nd in the second round, where the New York Islanders drafted him.

Well, last night Räty was playing his first game in the National Hockey League, and he took the opportunity to score his first NHL goal.

Let’s see what Räty will be able to accomplish from now on. It will be interesting to see if he shows all the other teams that they made a mistake of not selecting him and dropping him in the draft like this.

I remember very well that I really wanted to see the Montreal Canadiens select him at the end of the first round.

The CH had finally drafted Logan Mailloux 31st overall.

5. The Bruins have the upper hand over the Devils

Last night we had the right to a game between two very good teams from the Eastern Conference, while the Bruins were in New Jersey to face the Devils.

Well, two good teams means a great show, and that’s exactly what happened.

It was an action-packed game in which Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark was very solid stopping 37 of 40 shots he faced.

The Bruins won 4-3 following taking a 4-1 lead in the game.

They were therefore hot, but in the end they pocketed the two points in regulation time.

Here are some goals from that game.
