Smic, fuel prices, retirement pensions… what will change for the wallet on January 1, 2023

The transition to 2023 will be accompanied by several adjustments and other increases in the categories of salaries, pensions and housing. France 3 takes stock.

More than the symbolic transition to the new year, January 1 is traditionally the occasion to implement small increases and other adjustments decided at the highest level of the State during the past year. And this January 1, 2023 will be no exception to the rule, between salaries, retirement pensions and the distribution of male condoms. A quick overview of what will change for your wallet.

1 353 euros net : this will be the amount of the Smic from January 1, an increase of 24 euros. An automatic revaluation (without government intervention) at the start of the year which takes inflation into account, the latest figures of which were published on Thursday. This represents an increase of 1.8%, which will occur following three automatic revaluations in 2022 (5.6% over the year).

Gross, for a full-time 35-hour week, the monthly Smic will increase to 1 709 euros and the hourly minimum wage at 11.27 euros. The Ministry of Labor confirmed this increase, noting that net, at 1 353.07 monthly, the minimum wage will have earned 84 euros in one year. The government can choose to go beyond the automatic increase by “a nudge”, which has not happened since 2012.

End clap for the discount of 10 cents per liter of fuel at the pump, for all, supported by the State. This will be replaced on January 1 by an allowance, which will be reserved for the 10 million most modest workers. Its amount will be 100 euros for the whole of 2023. The condition for receiving this allowance: have a reference tax income of 15 768 euros or less. A sworn statement indicating the need for the car to get to work will also be requested.

It should be noted that this check for 100 euros will be paid to a person, and not to a tax household. A modest couple can therefore receive 200 euros.

A bonus of 100 euros may also be paid to drivers embarking on carpooling “Daily“.

In one year, this is the third increase in pensions, following 1% in January 2022 and 4% in July. This time, basic pensions will increase by 0.8%, for people affiliated to the CNAV, CNRACL, CNAVPL, SRE or ASPA

In total, 14 million retirees should be affected by the increase.

Currently at 1%, the rate of return for the housing savings plan (PEL) will drop to 2% from 1 January. But beware: unlike the booklet A, such an increase only applies to PEL opened following January 1st. This adjustment is the direct consequence of the rise in real estate market interest rates.

Tightening screws around energy strainers. Housing whose annual consumption is greater than 450 kWh per m2 will be considered indecent, and therefore prohibited from being rented. This measure only applies to new rental contracts, and cannot lead to the dismissal of a tenant. The owners of such properties will, on the other hand, have to start energy renovation work if they wish to find new occupants.

On the MaPrimeRénov’ side, the energy renovation aid scheme, it will no longer be possible to obtain subsidies for the purchase of gas boilers, including those with very high energy performance. Moreover, the ceilings for works that can be financed by the scheme will be increased on February 1, from 15 000 to 25 000 euros.

As announced by Emmanuel Macron on December 9, male condoms will be free in pharmacies for those under 26. The announcement initially only concerned 18-25 year olds, before the president decided to also include minors.

The social security ceiling, used as the basis for calculating certain benefits, will also be reassessed on January 1, 2023, for the first time since 2019. It will increase to 3 666 euros per month, an increase of 6.9%.

The health crisis has left its mark on the world of work and its habits, in particular through partial unemployment and teleworking. But these changes are not always immutable. The derogatory scheme for additional partial activity allowances should thus end, the CSG going from 6.2 to 9.2% on January 1, 2023. There are also no more exemptions from social security contributions depending on the total amount of the allowances. On the other hand, the partial activity system for employees vulnerable to Covid-19 is maintained.

Telework, for its part, continues to make its way. The lump sum, paid to compensate for the costs incurred by public servants working from home, will be increased, from 220 to 253.44 euros per year.

The disappearance of a French symbol. The famous red stamp will bow out on January 1, in favor of a red e-letter. Its principle: It will be necessary to send a document, up to three sheets, before 8 p.m. on the laposte.fr site, from a post office, on an automaton or with the help of a postman. The document will be printed near the addressee, put in an envelope and distributed the next day.
